Improvement Cymru Academy: Introducing the Lean Training Series
The Improvement Cymru Academy is excited to introduce its Lean training series, designed to help NHS Wales staff deliver effective, sustainable improvements.

As the training arm of Improvement Cymru, we provide practical, collaborative learning to support teams in driving meaningful change. Our new Lean series equips healthcare staff with tools and techniques to identify inefficiencies, improve workflows, and enhance patient outcomes.
On 31 January, we delivered the first Fundamentals of Lean course in collaboration with the Improvement Cymru Programmes team to the Endoscopy and Respiratory teams from Aneurin Bevin University Health Board. This interactive session introduced key Lean principles and practical methods to reduce waste and improve service flow.
Tom Damsell, Senior Improvement Manager at the Academy, shares:
“This training is about giving teams across Wales the right tools to tackle the challenges they face every day. It was great to see participants explore how Lean principles could help improve their services, and I’m looking forward to supporting more teams on their improvement journey.”
Ross Nowell, Programmes Improvement Manager, adds:
“Lean training offers practical methods to address inefficiencies while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Seeing participants engage with the tools and work together was incredibly rewarding.”
